Two Employees of ANAF and the Ministry of Finance Were Acquitted Following a Decision by the Bucharest Court of Appeal

Bucharest, June 23 ^rd , 2025 – Georgescu Gonț partners specializing in white collar crime obtained the final acquittal of two inspectors from ANAF and the Ministry of Finance for committing fraud. The inspectors were accused of fraud and forgery, being involved in an investigation that began several years ago after it was discovered that they had been hired on the basis of false diplomas.

After a thorough analysis of the evidence, the court assessed the professional activity of the two inspectors and found that the salaries they received were based on valid employment contracts and reflected the work they actually performed. The Court of Appeal emphasized that there was no evidence to support the intention to mislead or obtain an unfair material advantage. Furthermore, the annual evaluations, which showed that the two had been rated very highly, reinforced the defence’s arguments.

Ultimately, the judges decided that the allegations of fraud were unfounded, given that the defendants’ professional work had been considered valuable and the salary payments were legally justified. This decision highlights the importance of a fair assessment of professional conduct within public institutions.
